Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games will join the Nintendo Switch Online service next week. But there are still some Nintendo Switch Online games that we want that aren’t being advertised for the service! Whether it’s an overlooked NES or SNES title or a Genesis or N64 game you’d like to see in the future, what do you want most? Here are our choices.
Nintendo has shown its willingness to launch a casual import-only game on the service, especially those that don’t have a big language barrier. Given that, why not shine a light on more Super Famicom games than the West has ever seen? As Mario and Wario! Or Tetris Battle Gaiden! But the one I want to call it most is quite rare in Japan, and a cool little platforming puzzle that still looks new today. Sutte Hakkun uses a fun paint mechanic and endearing protagonist to present screens and screens of fun without text. Give it a chance in the West, Nintendo! (And maybe post those Game Boy versions that we’re not supposed to know about too.) – Graham
I totally agree that Sutte Hakkun is a game that belongs to the service. It’s charming, fun and has no language barriers. Which means it would work well as one of those Nintendo Switch Online import games all over the world.
But speaking of imports, what about Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu? Whoever has played Kirby’s Star Stacker could figure it out. It’s basically the same game. Since the upgraded version of SNES includes multiplayer, this would be another game you could play with a friend. – Jenni
Many, many, many people will notice that Super Mario RPG is still not on the SNES library of the Switch, which is frankly unacceptable! But for me, the most glaring absences are for the years 1995 Metal warriors and the years 1992 Axelay, both originally published by Konami. Metal warriors was a side-scrolling action game with mecha and very good approximations of the late 80s sci-fi anime, much like the best known Leynos Assault Suit/Target earth on Genesis. Axelay was a shooter who showcased some of Konami’s technology and artistry at its best.
Unfortunately, it might be more difficult to put these two on deck. Metal warriors was developed by LucasArts, now defunct, and it is an open question who currently holds the rights to it. Meanwhile, Konami hasn’t shown much interest in reviving this era in its history. Recent movements, however, suggest a return to game development. It can keep hope alive! – Josh
Given the number of hours I spent playing it as a kid at a friend’s house, Harvest Moon 64 should eventually appear. Sure, there have been plenty of titles on the show since, but there’s nothing wrong with indulging in some sweet 3D nostalgia. – Carley
