Hawthorne man killed in collision with large truck near Vermont Avenue

WEST ATHENS, Calif. (May 31, 2022) – 51 years old Jose Rodriguez was killed Thursday morning in a tractor-trailer accident on the 105 Freeway.

Officers responded to the scene around 2:14 a.m. on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Vermont Avenue.

According to reports, the driver of a van collided with a semi-trailer. However, the events leading up to it remain unclear.

Responding officers said one person died at the scene. Officials later identified the deceased victim as 51-year-old Hawthorne resident Jose Rodriguez.

In addition, authorities closed the area for several hours to make way for clearing and preliminary operations.

At this time, it is not known whether speeding, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. However, an active investigation is ongoing.
